STATEMENT

Raquel Mora

I am concerned with the meaning hidden behind the shapes of objects or living beings.  I study their physics and their biological processes from a plastic point of view and this opens up the possibility of a new world in which parameters are exchanged, I like to melt the air or evaporate the steel, to merge an explorer with the ship he is travelling in or to design a traveller from the animal he discovered...

When we talk about formalism we talk about movement, humidity, weight, speed, sound, we talk about touch, but I believe that above all we unveil old mysteries and play at creating new ones.

Because of my studies in Biological Sciences I turn to microbiology which provides me with attractive forms; but I am also in constant contact with historical texts and our cultural legacy to understand the most prosaic dimension of the human being, that which shapes us and which we ignore because of its size, but which nevertheless has a decisive influence on our social and emotional behaviour.

In the images you can clearly see the evolution of my previous series in which I explored the microscopic world to provide me with information, above all formal, there are organisms that in dialogue with others allow me to design fascinating creatures.

I am currently working on a series dedicated to the travellers who lent us their eyes and legs, their courage and curiosity. Probably the impetus to know through travel is the clearest link between human beings.

Biografía

Raquel mora nace en Aranjuez, Madrid . Desde pequeña vive bajo la influencia de su abuelo, técnico del cine y pintor que le enseña a dibujar del natural animales y plantas de su entorno. Este hábito es el estímulo de lo que serán sus estudios superiores en Ciencias Biológicas, Bellas Artes y Cerámica.

Su atracción por los procesos le ha llevado a investigar en diferentes disciplinas artísticas como el grabado, la cerámica, la pintura o la fotografía aunque sus herramientas de trabajo más habituales son el dibujo y la cerámica.

A lo largo de su carrera ha sido becada por el Ministerio de Cultura español en la Cité Internationale de Paris; Ha expuesto en ferias como ARCO 2007, Frieze, 2009, Art toronto 2009-2011, Scope Miami 2010, TIAF 2012 o Art Sevilla; ha expuesto de forma individual en galerías como ATM, Liebre o Galería Begoña Malone con exposiciones como Grafomanías e Indumentarias del deseo. También ha expuesto en numerosas colectivas en museos como Würth, Fundación Gregorio Prieto 2018, Museo de arte contemporáneo de Alicante o el Museo Arqueológico de Albacete,o el Museo de arte contemporáneo de Murcia en 2019; ha sido premiada en varios concursos como el EAC y tiene obra en varias colecciones como el Museo de la Ciudad de Madrid o La colección Sur de CCOO.

En 2021 tuvo una retrospectiva en el CEART que reunía más de sesenta piezas.

A lo largo de los últimos años ha recibido diferentes residencias artísticas que le han llevado a colaboraciones con galerías de paises como China , Holanda, México, Portugal o Islandia.

Actualmente trabaja con una galería en Beijing .
